Walking through my South Florida neighborhood, I was taken by the sculptural qualities of the trees lining the street and took several photos. I printed one of these photos onto archival drawing paper, then cut it into sections and mounted the pieces, with some elevated to interpret the dynamics of the space, creating a bas-relief effect. After mounting, I drew into the piece with colored pencil, graphite, and charcoal, to emphasize shape, form, and shadow.
