The “Within” series explores space as ‘restriction’ versus ‘protection.’ Using a variety of materials including paper, wire mesh and aluminum wire, I created a series of gateways.

The spaces could be interpreted as constrained enclosures or places of safety and shelter. My choice of the wire mesh presents a dominant texture and pattern, begging the question: is it harsh or does it represent protection? I invite the viewer to wander into these spaces and decide for themselves.
